Design Process

Problem Definition “Defining what is needed or limited first will insure a more successful solution. The end user must be taken into account to insure that the product, system or interface is “friction-less.”

Market Analysis “Knowing the competition and where trends are headed is essential in any business venture.” A benchmark must be established to ensure one is going in the right direction.” 

Research “This step is approached in a variety of different ways and takes into account the many aspects of a given market.”                           

Problem Solving “BRDP works with the client as a team to take the problem definition through the critical steps. This step is critical to the justification of the entire process of design. “

Life Cycle Analysis “Determining the life expectancy of a product is necessary to establish evolutionary qualities in a given product generation.”    

Human Factors / Ergonomics “BRDP developed its underpinnings at Henry Dreyfuss Associates, the birthplace of Human Factors and Ergonomic Science” This analysis is essential to anything a person will interact with.”  

Concept Development “BRDP generates concepts through a variety of sketching and modeling techniques either graphic or digital. Collected knowledge is essential in this part of the process.”

Concept Refinement “Concept Refinement “Concept refinement is a necessary part of developing products, environments or interfaces as a team.” 

Mock-up “Mock-ups can be made up according to what ever needs to be evaluated. They can be made out of a variety of materials or in digital format. The Mock-up is very educational to the team.” 

Prototype “A prototype happens after the mock –up has proven out the dimensional constraints of the concept.” 

Safety “Safety must always be considered from a standpoint of product liability. There are many laws that govern public safety.” 

Code Compliance “Code compliance refers to any national or international codes which govern potential hazards, electrical, chemical or otherwise.”

Field Test “A refined working prototype will be used in the field test in order to prove out all the necessary functions of a potential product.”

Aesthetics “Aesthetics are very important during concept development and concept refinement. Final refinements must be integrated into the design after the field test has been thoroughly experimented with.”

First Article Inspection “First article inspection combs for any remaining design or engineering issues.”

Pre Production “Pre-production takes into consideration tooling issues that may not have been addressed in first article.”

Production “In initial production there still can be issues which arise from tooling, engineering or design.”
